What Is Illite?

- It is a fine-grained clay mineral with a plate-like tabular structure similar to muscovite.
- Illite was first discovered in 1937 by Dr. Grim fromthe University of Illinois and was named “Illite”after the name of the place it was discovered.
- A rare mineral in the world, Illite is distributed in small quantitiestothe United States, Canada, and Australia.
- However, in terms of the vein, Yeongdong in Chungcheongbuk-do is the only place in the world with a large quantity of Illite, and the quality of Illite is known to be excellent.
- Illite is not well known before because it was discovered only recently, and its reserves are rare.Furthermore, it is generally known as sericite. In Korea, it was first discovered in 1985, and its functionality and utility have been studied for over 20 years.
Efficacy of Illite
It was found that Illite has excellent adsorption and deodorization effecttoward heavy metals and toxic gases, has high far-infrared ray emission and anion generation effect at room temperature, andhas an antimicrobial and antiviral effect. It was also found that it enhances nonspecific immunity in the animal body, has a therapeutic effect on certain diseases, and promotes growth.
